Shapes Galore!

Oh, my – am I glad it’s Friday.  I think I have just as difficult of a time adjusting to school after spring break as my kindergarteners do!  This week we did a lot of work with shapes, and I wanted to share two activities and freebies with you.

#1:  After teaching about hexagons (how many sides, vertices, etc.), I gave my kids a sheet of paper with 6 hexagons on it.  Their job was to use different pattern blocks to completely cover the hexagon, and then draw the different ways they found.  The drawing part was a bit difficult for some of them (I probably should have just had them take a photo of their work with an iPads), but they enjoyed the block part.

#2:  As an independent math center, I created super simple shape printouts and laminated them.  The kids used play-dough to create the shapes.

Click on the picture of each document to grab it for free (one of the sets of shape printouts is in Spanish, so choose carefully when you download!).

I also have this 2-D & 3-D geometry pack with lots of sorting mats and some accompanying activities:

Happy weekend!
